Makur Maker gets visit from John Calipari and Kenny Payne

Maker is now a top-15 prospect in the 2020 class.

With John Calipari unable to visit Matthew Hurt, the UK head coach visited another talented big man.

Calipari and associate head coach Kenny Payne made their way to California for a visit with five-star center Makur Maker, he announced on Twitter:

Maker is rated as a five-star prospect by 247 Sports, where he is now the 13th-ranked overall recruit, the fifth-best prospect from the state of California, and the third-best center in the country for 2020. He plays at Orange Lutheran.

There has actually been speculation that the 7-foot, 235-pound Maker could reclassify into the 2019 class. As of now, the plan is to stay in 2020, but this will be something to watch for in the summer recruiting circuit.

It’s still early in the recruiting process for Maker, who is the cousin of Detroit Pistons forward Thon Maker. There isn’t even a prediction in his 247 crystal ball.

As of now, N’Faly Dante and Clifford Omoruyi are the only true big men with offers from UK in 2020. Given that Maker is the only other big that UK has shown significant interest in, he could be next in line for an offer. He also holds offers from the Oregon Ducks, USC Trojans and UCLA Bruins.
