Kentucky target Jaemyn Brakefield has elected to remain in the class of 2020.
Despite many believing that reclassification was a real possibility and he did have the option, ultimately the five-star forward made the decision to remain in his class and develop for one more year before entering college.
Judging by his Twitter, you can tell that Brakefield wanted to make it known that his recruitment isn’t close to coming to an end.
My recruitment is still wide open and I will remain in 2020

Brakefield has visited Big Blue Madness in each of the past two seasons.
It is unclear exactly how Brakefield’s decision will impact UK’s chances at signing him, but opening the door for another year of recruitment may be a good thing for John Calipari and his staff. They will now have more time to make an impression on Brakefield, who is also considering the Ole Miss Rebels and Louisville Cardinals.
Back in February, Brakefield spoke with USA Today’s Jason Jordan about his thoughts surrounding his possible reclassification.
“I still have goals of wanting to be a McDonald’s All-American and things like that. Then it’s just the thought of what’s the rush?” Brakefield said. “I’m gonna take time and make the best decision for me. I don’t really have a timetable for when I’ll know, but it’s a strong possibility.”
After hearing that, you can tell that finishing out his senior year is something that he was looking forward to. Brakefield plays for the powerhouse program Huntington prep in West Virginia where he will play against national competition again next season.
His decision to avoid reclassification follows another 2020 five-star player, Isaiah Todd, who also recently announced that he would be remaining in his class.
The class of 2020 remains loaded with talent and Kentucky remains in a great position to land many of the tops guys. As you can see in the highlights below, Brakefield would be a great addition to UK’s roster whenever he plays in college.
