The Kentucky Wildcats have a new target in the Class of 2020, and it’s actually a teammate of Kahlil Whitney.
According to Corey Evans, Kentucky has offered a scholarship to junior big man Clifford Omoruyi.
The 6-11, 230-pound Omoruyi hails from Rosselle (NJ) and plays at Roselle Catholic alongside Whitney, who is committed to play for Kentucky next season. He holds offers from the UCLA Bruins, Indiana Hoosiers, Florida Gators, Rutgers Scarlet Knights, Auburn Tigers, Syracuse Orange, Georgia Bulldogs and West Virginia Mountaineers among others.
Omoruyi has freakish size and athleticism, highlighted by his 7-6 wingspan. He’s a native of Nigeria who came to America in 2016.
This is the first public interest of any kind that Kentucky has had in Omoruyi, though John Calipari and his staff have undoubtedly seen him plenty from watching watching Whitney.
Speaking of, Calipari was in New Jersey today, so he likely saw Omoruyi in person and made the scholarship offer.
It seems as though Omoruyi is a prospect on the rise, as he’s currently ranked 56th overall by Rivals and ESPN, while 247 Sports ranks him 74th. All three services list him as a center. If Calipari is offering him this early, I’d venture to guess Omoruyi will be ranked higher when the new rankings come out.
