It will be Round 3 for the Kentucky Wildcats and Auburn Tigers for a spot in the Final Four on the line.
Kentucky needed a late rally to get past the Houston Cougars to make it to Sunday’s Elite Eight clash of SEC foes.
Auburn, to the shock of everyone found it much easier earn a spot in Sunday’s action thanks to a dominating win over the 1 seed North Carolina Tar Heels.
Now, Kentucky will get a third crack at Auburn, as the Wildcats swept the regular-season series 2-0. But this is a different Tigers squad that’s arguably the hottest team in college basketball.
Sunday’s Elite Eight SEC has gotten the 2:20 pm EST time slot on Sunday on CBS with Ian Eagle, Jim Spanarkel and Jamie Erdahl on the call.
The Duke Blue Evils and Michigan State Spartans will take over in the second game, which is tentatively set for 5:05 p.m.
For what it’s worth, KenPom is giving the early edge to Kentucky, as they project the Cats to be 2.5-point favorites. They also give Kentucky a 58% chance of winning and project a narrow 73-71 win for Big Blue Nation.
The official early spread is Kentucky by 2.5 points. I suspect the final margin will be fairly close to this, as both teams will fight tooth and nail for a spot in Minneapolis. This should be a classic that will put an SEC team in the Final Four for the second time in three years.
What do you think will happen Sunday?
