3-star offensive tackle Gerald Mincey decommits from Kentucky

Less than two months after announcing, Mincey is reopening his recruitment

Less than two months after announcing his commitment to Kentucky, 2020 offensive tackle Gerald Mincey announced on his Twitter account that he is reopening his recruitment.

Mincey, a 6’6, 317 pound, three-star prospect from Florida, was one of only two commits for the Wildcats in the Class of 2020 alongside offensive tackle Richie Leonard, also a Florida prospect.

In the tweet, Mincey says that Kentucky will remain on his list of schools under consideration. On 247, he has one crystal ball prediction going to the Florida Gators, which came earlier this month.

The home-state Gators becoming more involved and offering most likely played a role. Additionally, Mincey recently received offers from Miami and Florida State after making a name for himself at The Opening Miami.

This is definitely a loss for Kentucky. Mincey has the look of a guy that Kentucky identified and jumped on early (a testament to the coaching staff) and is now starting to really boost his profile. It would be a surprise to see him recommit to Kentucky, as it seems Mincey is destined to stay in the state of Florida.
