The Kentucky Wildcats are 22-point favorites for Thursday’s first round matchup with Abilene Christian.
It will be the first time ACU appears in the NCAA Tournament, as they haven’t even been a Division I program for a decade.
Can the Wildcats from Abilene upset blue blood Kentucky?
One writer apparently believes not only will they pull the upset, but they will “slay John Calipari and his merry band of NBA bums from Kentucky.”
Marc Engel of the Fort Worth-Star Telegram made the bold prediction and took several digs at Kentucky along the way.
Engel warned the Big Blue Nation of an upcoming upset, saying “Take heed you obnoxious followers from Kentucky, ACU is coming to get you, Cal’ and Ashley Judd, too.”
The boldest statement of the article, however, was the prediction itself, which read “I’m talking ACU over Kentucky.”
Is Engel serious?
Probably not. As he pointed out several times, ACU’s story of going from a losing program in Division II just eight years ago to the NCAA Tournament and taking on Kentucky is quite incredible. Thus, he had some fun bragging about the outstanding story he’s gotten to cover.
ACU may keep things close for some of the first half, but it would be one of the biggest upsets in NCAA history if they were to take down Kentucky.
