Tyler Herro wins SEC Freshman of the Week

Herro came up big for the Cats in wins over the Rebels and Gators.

The Kentucky Wildcats went 2-0 last week thanks in large part to Tyler Herro.

On Monday, the league announced that Herro the SEC Freshman of the Week.

Herro, a 6-5, 195-pound freshman from Milwaukee (WI), averaged 18 points, 5.5 rebounds two assists and two steals in wins at Ole Miss and over Florida. Herro registered his fifth 20-point effort of the season against the Rebels. He followed that with a 16-point performance in a win at home against Florida.

Herro finished the regular season with a 14.2 scoring average – second best on the team on 46.5% shooting and a team-high 53 3-pointers. He led the team with 25 double-figure scoring games, and UK was 17-0 this season when he scored 15 or more points.

Herro was at his best on the road, as averaged a team-high 15.5 points per game on 50.5% shooting in UK’s 10 road games this season.

Herro has now tied Keldon Johnson for a league-high three SEC Freshman of the Week honors this season. Ashton Hagans also won two SEC Freshman of the Week awards.
