Good morning, Big Blue Nation. If you’re like me, then you’re struggling on this Monday because of Daylight Saving time. But if you’re John Calipari, you may be struggling for a different reason.
Reid Travis is a giant piece to the National Title puzzle for the Kentucky Wildcats. After tweaking a knee weeks ago, Travis is still sidelined and, as far as we know, there’s no indication that he will play on Friday night at 7:00 PM to kickoff the SEC Tournament.
With Zion Williamson reportedly ready to suit up for the Duke Blue Devils on Thursday, one has to wonder if maybe Travis’ injury was a little more serious than expected. Both Zion and Reid had sprained knees but only Zion is ready to go.
Or maybe it’s the fact that different bodies heal at different speeds.
Or maybe K is pushing Zion to play.
Whatever the case may be, the longer Reid Travis is out the more worried we all become.

Honored to meet the family of Capt. Kenneth Dalga. With his wife, Sarah, his son, Noah, his brother, Nolan, and his sister-in-law, Sarah. I know Capt. Dalga was watching yesterday. pic.twitter.com/ujqy3uRQ98

Except that they aren’t similar at all. https://t.co/4yepij81pE

I agree with Kyle Tucker 100%. I think Travis’ injury is genuine and I think he has the trust of Cal and his teammates. Something was off about the entire Jarred Vanderbilt situation. Looking back at it, it seems he may have taken Kentucky for a ride.
Quickies
Gym rat mentality started in the Bahamas | Cats Pause- John Calipari gave his team the option to go home with family and take the next couple of days off because UK is on spring break. The players declined, opting to stay and work out in the gym in preparation for the coming tournaments.
SEC Tournament info | UK Athletics- The Cats locked up the two seed by beating Florida on Saturday and they will play Friday at 7:00 PM vs. the winner of Alabama and Ole MIss. The Cats are looking for their fifth straight SEC Tournament title.
UK and UNC one seeds...for now | CBS- Not many teams have resumes as impressive as those of UNC and UK. Because of that, both teams jumped Duke and Tennessee to claim one seeds in the latest projections. I think if UK makes it to the SEC title game then that one seed is a lock.
Gardner Webb clinches first ever NCAA berth | ESPN- Remember when UofL fans thought it was funny to buy Gardner Webb t-shirts?
Bozich’s top 25 | WDRB- Rick Bozich has the Cats as the fourth team in the country in his final top 25 of the regular season. And he asks the question, “Is it time to doubt Duke?” The Blue Devils are a completely different team without Zion Williamson. That being said, there isn’t much excusing that many losses without him considering the rest of the talent on that team. And if they lose Marquis Bolden for an extended amount of time then you could chalk this up as one of K’s most disappointing seasons if Duke bows out before the Final Four.
UK softball sweeps #11 South Carolina | UK Athletics- It was a damn good weekend for Rachel Lawson’s team as the #18 Wildcats took care of business in their first series of the conference season.
UK baseball weekly review | UK Athletics- The Cats went 3-1 this week with a sweep of Middle Tennessee State and the one loss coming vs. Boston College.
Selection Sunday TV time and info | Sporting News- After last year’s disastrous broadcast where the teams were announced alphabetically, things are back to normal as the show moves back to CBS and the old format of going region by region will return. The show starts at 6:00 PM and we won’t have to wait around for the teams to be announced, it will happen within the first 10 minutes.
Tennessee losing its grip at the worst time | CBS- As the Vols were looking like the top overall seed in the country at one point, Rick Barnes is Rick Barnesing in March. Tennessee looks to firmly be a 2 seed right now but they will have their chance to reclaim their spot as they will likely face UK one more time before Selection Sunday.
