Former Wildcat Charles Matthews continues to be the story in Ann Arbor as the Michigan Wolverines prepare for postseason tournaments without one of their top players.
Matthews is among the top three in nearly every statistical category for the Wolverines and questions continue to swirl on when/if he will return this season.
Matthews suffered an injury to his right ankle on Sunday during the Wolverines’ loss to rival Michigan State. He missed last night’s game against Nebraska for Senior Night, and on the ESPN broadcast, it was mentioned that Matthews had “significant ligament damage” in the ankle.
However, a Michigan spokesperson told Jeff Goodman that the injury is simply a sprained ankle and Matthews is considered day-to-day. ESPN’s Molly McGrath reported that the information about the ligament damage came from Matthews himself, so the story continues to get even more confusing.
All in all, it doesn’t seem like a good sign for Matthews but hopefully he will be able to return and play in the NCAA Tournament one final time during his college carer. Seeing Matthews succeed has been a positive for many UK fans as it seemed like the decision to transfer from Kentucky ultimately worked out for him.
Hopefully this injury is minor and he will be back on the court soon.
