The Kentucky Wildcats are still in the hunt for RJ Hampton.

The five-star guard in the Class of 2020 announced his trimmed-down list of five on Thursday:

Also making the cut were the Duke Blue Devils, Memphis Tigers, Kansas Jayhawks and TCU Horned Frogs.

The 6-4 guard from Little Elm (TX) is already in heavy pursuit by major college programs, even though he’s a 2020 recruit. A big reason for the interest, however, is that Hampton has been mentioned as a reclassification candidate.

Hampton did previously say he would stick to 2020, but he is taking the necessary coursework to be able to reclass if he still wants to this summer.

According to 247 Sports, Hampton is the No. 6 overall player in the class in addition to being the No. 2 combo guard.

Hampton actually has a friendship with Kentucky commitment Tyrese Maxey, as both players are Texas natives.

“Tyrese is my guy, I’ve been playing with him since 1st grade. One of the most dynamic players in the country. A pure scorer that can get anywhere on the floor”

Pairing Hampton and Maxey in Kentucky’s backcourt would be a devastating duo, but Hampton could also be the leader of Kentucky’s 2020 class if he sticks to that year.

Here are some highlights of Hampton in a matchup with Maxey back in December:
