Terry Wilson took over the QB job last season and although it wasn’t without controversy, he was under center for the first 10-win season since 1977.
This week, C.J. Conrad joined Matt Jones on KSR to discuss his time at UK and other things. In that interview, Conrad talked about Wilson and gave some interesting quotes about him.
“I expect huge things out of Terry. I think he’s going to be one of the best quarterbacks in the SEC next year,” Conrad told Jones.
It's obvious that Conrad sees a bright future for Wilson and noted that the struggles he had this year will disappear with experience.
“He’s just scratching the surface. This semester was his first full year at Kentucky. Everything is about confidence with a quarterback I feel like. There’s a lot of things thrown at him and there was games where he showed that he could handle it, like the Florida game. Then in the Texas A&M game, he kind of looked lost out there a little bit. But that’s just all with reps and confidence.”
If you remember, Wilson was outstanding in the Florida game when he was 11/16 for 151 yards, two TDs, and one INT. He also ran the ball 10 times for 105 yards and a TD.
In that game, he showed that he has the potential to be phenomenal as he stepped up in a game that was huge for both the program and the fanbase in ending the streak.
However, like Conrad said, he also had some games where he struggled. In particular, during the Texas A&M game he seemed a bit indecisive with some of his throws and the Cats had one of their worst offensive performances of the year.
Like Nick Roush noted on KSR, the Cats didn’t have the best passing game this past season, but it wasn’t inefficient. Wilson completed 67.2% of his passes on the year, which is second best in school history for a single season.
I think we all should be excited for the future with Terry Wilson under center. If he ends up developing into the player C.J. believes he will be, then the next two seasons are going to be fun to watch.
