Sporting News names Kentucky Basketball ‘Team of the Decade’

No program has made a bigger impact on college basketball than UK.

The Sporting News has named the Kentucky Wildcats the ‘team of the decade,’ beating out the Duke Blue Devils for the top spot.

Sporting News used a point scale to determine who was the better program, with 10 points for a national championship, five points for a national runner-up, five points for a Final Four appearance, one point for Sporting News Player of the Year, one point per First-Team All-American, NCAA Tournament wins, and total draft picks.

Kentucky edged out the Blue Devils by seven points, 67-60, with a 2012 National Championship, four Final Fours, a national runner-up, and 35 total draft picks.

While Duke does have two national titles since 2010, they only have two Final Four appearances, and two major upsets at the hands of Lehigh and Mercer, only two years apart. They’ve also failed to make it past the Sweet 16 six times in the last 10 years.

The top five teams of the decade include:

  1. Kentucky Wildcats
  2. Duke Blue Devils
  3. Kansas Jayhawks
  4. North Carolina Tar Heels
  5. Villanova Wildcats

As if there was any doubt that the Cats were the best program of all-time, let alone the decade. You can check out the rest of the list here.
