The Kentucky Wildcats earned their 12th conference win Saturday with a dominating 80-53 win over the Auburn Tigers.
With the win, Kentucky swept the season series with the Tigers and extended Auburn’s losing streak in Lexington to 31 years.
In addition, the Cats moved into a three-way tie atop the SEC standings after the LSU Tigers (without Tremont Waters) upset the Tennessee Volunteers in Baton Rouge in overtime Saturday.
This was another huge game for PJ Washington as he dropped 24 points, including five three-pointers.
Tyler Herro had a big day as well, dropping 17 points with a trio of three-pointers.
However, the most impressive performance may have belonged to Keldon Johnson. Despite only scoring eight points and going without a three-pointer the freshman grabbed a carer-high 17 rebounds.
To dominate the way the Wildcats did without Reid Travis on the floor says a lot about this team, and it should take away some fans who feared the team would be in big trouble without the grad senior. It’s also clear this is a championship-level team that can close ranks when one guy goes down, and that’s scary for the rest of college basketball.
