Good morning BBN. Sorry for the late edition of the Quickies but my laptop decided to run diagnostics and I was left staring at my screen. Luckily I’m off of work today and I had nothing but time on my hands.
The big news today is that John Calipari may be close to landing the fourth recruit in the 2019 class. On Saturday, five star forward Keion Brooks was in Lexington to watch the Kentucky Wildcats take on the Tennessee Volunteers. He was treated to College Game Day, a wonderful crowd, NBA players galore, and John Calipari’s coaching ability on full display.
All indications were that he left very impressed with what he saw.
I reached out to some people about how the visit went. Curtis Burch of WLAP and TJ Walker formally of KSR both answered back indicating that Brooks may be close to becoming a Cat.
Curtis sent me this link.
It’s behind a paywall so if you want to read it you need a subscription or at least need to pony up some money. Basically the Brooks commitment may come this week. He canceled his visit to Michigan State yesterday. There are some reports that he canceled because of weather and there’s no plans right now to make it up but that’s just internet rumors at this point.
Keion Brooks has heavily favored as an Indiana Hoosier lock but with Archie Miller’s team losing 10 of 11 games and the failure of using a star like Romeo Langford, Brooks is looking elsewhere and Kentucky may be the spot.

2019 five-star forward Keion Brooks Jr. will not make the trip to Michigan State today following his unofficial visit to Kentucky. Final decision could come as soon as next week.— Jack Pilgrim (@JackPilgrimKSR) February 17, 2019
I’d say that’s a good sign.
Erin always had to be first ... just like her mom! LOL!— John Calipari (@UKCoachCalipari) February 18, 2019
Love you, Erin. Hope you have a great birthday. pic.twitter.com/g0xaA1svFz
Happy birthday, Erin!
Beating Tennessee once put them in a position to get the Louisville Regional. If UT beats LSU and then Kentucky beats Tennessee again in Knoxville, things will really start to look good for the Cats.
Reid Travis may have been struggling to find the basket at times but his defense and rebounding has been fantastic. The job he did on Grant Williams earned much praise from John Calipari and PJ Washington.
Parrish is taking some big time heat for his recent rankings. One major point of contention was that he continues to undersell and undervalue anything and everything Kentucky does this season.
Rhyne Howard hit a jumper with three seconds left on the clock to lift the Cats over the Hogs 61-59.
Rick Bozich has Kentucky third on his ballot after going 1-1 last week losing to #19 LSU but crushing the #1 Volunteers. “3. Kentucky (21-4) — Raise your hand if you’d like to see a rematch with Duke.” In the title game, please.
The week one report of Kentucky baseball is all good news as the Cats go undefeated in the first week of the season.
Mike DeCourcy makes the case for PJ Washington as an All-America candidate and he makes it a pretty damn good one.
I’ll admit I didn’t watch a minute of the NBA All Star Game. I don’t like All Star games and I decided to watch True Detective instead. Speaking of....
Season three of the HBO anthology series has been a great addition to the series thanks to great writing and superb acting by the three main characters. But one surprise (not a spoiler) is the link to the first season.
