Kentucky recruits trending up in latest 247 rankings

Hopefully, Big Blue Nation will be able to breathe a little easier for the 2020 class than they have in 2019.

USA Basketball

Evan Daniels and company over at 247 Sports recently released their updated TOP247 rankings for the 2020 class, and several Kentucky targets continue to stand out.

Jalen Green checks in at No. 2 overall, and the 247 staff believes he could make a case for the No. 1 spot.

“The 6-foot-5 guard is a dynamic athletic with a budding skill set. Green plays both on and off the ball, has impressive vision and passing ability and can score the ball going towards the basket. Green also has quite a bit of potential as a defender.”

Jalen Johnson has jumped Scottie Barnes to come in at No. 3, with Barnes listed at No. 4. However, the shift seems to have much more to do with Johnson’s improvement than anything Barnes is doing to drop.

“Johnson, a standout at Nicolet (Wisc.) High, is having a strong junior season, and is known for his versatility, passing and having plus size for the position. Johnson moved from four to three in the new rankings.”

Barnes is an impressive defender with plus size, athleticism and tremendous intangibles. He’s skilled enough to play with the ball in his hands, but he’s tough and physical enough to guard four positions on the court. He’s one of the most unique prospects in the class.”

Barnes cut his list earlier this week and included the Kentucky Wildcats as one of his final eight teams. John Calipari is making him a high priority for next year’s class.

Targets RJ Hampton and Cade Cunningham are also ranked in the top 10 at No. 6 and No. 8, respectively.

Point guard Jeremy Roach has fallen a few spots to No. 15 in the class. N’Faly Dante, one of the top center prospects in the class for Kentucky, continues to slowly drop as well and finds himself at No. 17.

The only other player on the list with an offer from Kentucky is point guard Sharife Cooper, who comes in at No. 19.

Power forward Isaiah Todd could potentially receive an offer soon, and is rumored to be considering a reclassification to 2019, and he is now ranked as the No. 20 player in the class. However, the belief is 2020 is a stronger class than 2019, so Todd in 2019 may actually be higher than 20.

That is nine Kentucky targets ranked in the top 20 in the 2020 class by 247 Sports. Even landing a portion of those guys would create another monster class for John Calipari.
