Scottie Barnes is a consensus top-five basketball recruit in the 2020 class, ranked as high as No. 3 by many recruiting outlets. He is also a priority on Kentucky’s big board for that class, and he just cut his list to eight schools that he will be considering for his college basketball career.
The Florida Gators were thought to be among his top contenders, but they didn’t make the cut. His recruitment has featured a lot of buzz for Kentucky and Oregon, but never sleep on blue-bloods like Duke and Kansas when they’re in the mix.
Barnes is a 6’8” forward that can do it all. He handles the ball as well as most high school point guards, he can score from all three levels, and he can defend multiple positions. You can see why he was one of the first offers in 2020 issued by John Calipari back in April of 2018.
Very few projections have been entered into Barnes’ 247 Sports crystal ball, with Syracuse and Oregon each receiving one prediction. However, many believe that his recruitment is wide open as he has received offers from many of the top programs in the country.
A player at Barnes’ size with his skill set can be hard to come by. He is the size of PJ Washington with the abilities of Keldon Johnson, which basically describes PJ Washington over the last few weeks.
Any of these teams would be lucky to have a quicker PJ 2.0 as the cornerstone of their 2020 recruiting class. While Kentucky is certainly in the mix, Barnes is a long way from being ready to commit.
