Here’s the bad thing: they blew an 18 point lead in the process.
While blowing a sizable lead like that is disappointing, the fact that this team withstood the runs made by the Bulldogs says a lot about them. Remember last season when the Cats blew a lead like that on the road? They were up 17 points on the South Carolina Gamecocks in the second half and ended up losing.
The Cats showed resiliency after being punched in the mouth. And that shows us some grit heading into the latter part of the season.

Impressive: PJ Washington's 23 points yesterday came in 24 minutes. I think it's finally safe to say my take about thinking of him as a great "role player" turned out to be very off base. For his sake, glad he proved me wrong.— Justin Rowland (@RowlandRIVALS) February 10, 2019
PJ Washington has been better than we could have imagined when he decided to return. That being said, John Calipari was not happy with PJ’s performance and told the press to ignore the points and focus on him getting only three rebounds.
Dont care what the final score was. Dont care how big of a lead they blew. That was a HECK of a win for Kentucky. Miss State gave them their best shot at home - and Kentucky made enough plays to get a win. This team ABSOLUTELY has the mental toughness to win six straight in March— Aaron Torres (@Aaron_Torres) February 9, 2019
That’s exactly my point.
Matt House staying at UK | Lexington Herald Leader- House looks to be saying no to the Chiefs and the NFL. The optics of this are huge and the defense will need some stability with the departure of so many great players.
Cal demands more after win | Courier Journal- John Calipari knows that his team is going to see more games like this in March so he needs them to start bringing more to the table than just looking to score.
Cats trending up in Bracketology |Cats Pause- The NCAA selection committee released their top 16 seeds yesterday and UK is the top two seed. A one seed is still very much in play with Virginia losing again and two games against Tennessee on the horizon.
Winners and Losers | CBS- The Cats get a big shout out as winners: Coming into Saturday with a nine-game winning streak, it would have been acceptable -- and hey, maybe even expected -- if UK had fallen short to a Mississippi State team that so badly needed a quality win to keep its NCAA Tournament hopes afloat. But Kentucky not only took care of business, winning 71-67, it did so by holding off a motivated Bulldogs team that made a strong push towards the end. UK is a force to be reckoned with, and is shaping up to be the preseason top-5 club we had all projected it to be.
Kentucky eyeing Vols, Zags one seed | WDRB- Gonzaga plays an awful schedule and the Cats will have an opportunity to beat Tennessee twice, maybe even three times.
Louisville loses in OT | Courier Journal- The Cards also blew a sizable lead yesterday but the end result was much different as they dropped their seventh game to Florida State on the road.
