Wildcats open as underdogs in the Belk Bowl

The Kentucky Wildcats have done pretty well as the underdog this season.

All of the drama is over, and the Kentucky Wildcats will face the Virginia Tech Hokies in the Belk Bowl on New Years Eve at 12:00 pm EST. It’s the first game of the day, and I think fans will enjoy the option of going out and celebrating after the game.

The Cats opened as underdogs at +3 with the points going to the Hokies. The Wildcats covered the spread in their last three games of the regular season. It will be interesting to see how this line moves depending upon Lynn Bowden’s decision to play in the bowl game.

As for now, there is no reason to think he won’t play in Charlotte, but it has become commonplace around college football for NFL prospects to skip bowl games. It’s also unclear if he’s even made up his mind on a senior season at UK or entering the NFL draft.

CBS Sports also released a ranking of all the 39 bowl games and the Belk Bowl checks in at #16 on the list.

The Belk Bowl has existed since 2002, and this will be Virginia Tech’s 83rd appearance in the game give or take. If you haven’t watched Lynn Bowden and Kentucky this season, do yourself a favor and tune in. Bowden against the Virginia Tech defense in Bud Foster’s last game, will be a lot of fun.

The Gator Bowl featuring Tennessee and IU is ranked behind the Belk at 17. So much for that, eh Tennessee?
