Saturday Quickies: Cover the Spread Edition

The Cats mercifully today close out the drudgery of playing bum after bum.

NCAA Basketball: UAB at Kentucky Mark Zerof-USA TODAY Sports

I understand why John Calipari schedules the way he does at the start of the season but it’s exhausting to watch. The Kentucky Wildcats haven’t played a team worth a damn since beating the Michigan State Spartans. Since then, they’ve played a host of cupcakes and at times they looked completely uninspired while doing so. In the case of Evansville there wasn’t a hint of inspiration in the building.

Finally it’s the end of the Bum Slate of the non-con schedule as the Cats are set to take on Fairleigh Dickinson. The Knights are an abysmal 2-5. The Cats are a 24.5 point favorite to win the game. It’s going to be a sleepy Rupp Arena with an audience they may be checking their phones for score updates on the SEC Championship game in Atlanta.

For this game I just ask two things: cover the damn spread and stay healthy. That’s all I got.

Tweets of the Day

Lynn Bowden can do whatever the hell he wants and I defy anyone to stand in his way.

That’s pretty awesome. Welcome to the family, Joey Gatewood.

I have no idea who Da Baby is but glad Neal Brown can keep his promises!

Quickies

UK volleyball starts tournament play with a sweep | Cats Pause- The Cats CRUSHED Southeast Missouri State in the opening round of the NCAA tournament. They play Michigan tonight at 7:00 PM. If you’re going to the basketball game today, grab a bite to eat after and then head over to Memorial Coliseum.

December key words for Cal: ‘fight and finish’- UK Athletics- While this game **should** be a cakewalk, the rest of December is going to be a dogfight. John Calipari is leading physical practices where he says they might as well be wearing helmets. Let’s see if it translates.

Johnny Juzang is learning to be efficient | Vaught’s Views- The hope was that Johnny Juzang could come in and be a lighter version of Tyler Herro or Devin Booker. So far he hasn’t been the three point sniper we had hoped but Calipari is very high on him after extensive practices this week.

Trinity and Male to battle for 6A state title | WDRB- I’m sure the folks out in the Commonwealth are excited for this Louisville vs. Louisville matchup!

Lane Kiffin expected to be named Ole Miss head football coach | Saturday’s Down South- Lane Kiffin and tailgating at The Grove. What could go wrong?!

Oregon crushed Utah and their playoff hopes | CBS- The Ducks clocked the Utes in the PAC 12 title game, ending Utah’s hopes for a playoff bid. Oklahoma looks to be in prime position for the fourth slot but Baylor already almost had them beat a few weeks ago.

How each conference championship game effects the playoff field | ESPN- As long as Georgia loses to LSU, the winner of the Big 12 game should get the nod. If UGA wins then there will be two SEC teams in the playoffs and I’m here for it.

Firing David Fizdale won’t end Knicks dysfunction | USA Today- James Dolan, Jerry Jones, and Daniel Snyder continue to “hold my beer” each other in the competition for worst owner in all of professional sports.

Bold predictions for SEC title game | Saturdays Down South- LSU is the favorite and they are in the driver’s seat for the playoff. But maybe Georgia’s offense can pick it up today. I doubt it.

Be sure to join Terry Brown and me for the BEST UK Postgame in the Commonwealth. We will be on after the Cats take on the Knights. We will have John Calipari live and we will give YOU the first chance to call and react after the game. We have been and will continue to be the first and the best for fans.
