Good morning Big Blue Nation and happy Rivalry Saturday. The Louisville Cardinals are sitting an 11-1 record and they’re the third ranked team in the country. A win over the Card will mean much more than just another feather in the rivalry cap of the Kentucky Wildcats.
The Cats are in the midst of a two game losing streak. One loss was understandable while the other was an all systems failure. BBN can take solace in the fact that Cal has lost three in a row only once during his tenure in Lexington. Odds are Calipari will have things figured out for today.
But if the Cats somehow lose today I wonder what the backlash will be from the fans. There won’t be many more opportunities in SEC play for UK to get the top tier wins that the NCAA selection committee looks at before the tournament.
I have Kentucky winning the game 62-56 with my thoughts being that Ashton Hagans will have his way offensively and defensively with whichever guard Chris Mack throws at him and that Jordan Nowra will get his but will be pressing during different points of the game in order to get his team going.
And everybody knows Cal owns this series.

Punk these fools
Based on initials I spotted on Mack's game notes, these are the matchup Louisville expects against Kentucky:
— Danielle Lerner (@danielle_lerner) December 27, 2019
Darius Perry - Ashton Hagans
Dwayne Sutton - Khalil Whitney
Ryan McMahon - Tyrese Maxey
Steven Enoch - Nick Richards
Jordan Nwora - E.J. Montgomery
I feel good about Hagans vs. Perry and Maxey vs. McMahon. The rest...not so much.
Quickies
John Calipari is not happy with himself | WDRB- Calipari is being hard on himself saying that it’s on him for not figuring this team out yet.
Cats looking to add more good memories to the Battle of the Bluegrass | UK Athletics- Tyler Ulis and his bloody eye shutting down Chris Jones remains my favorite memory.
Cards look to extend UK’s losing streak | CBS- There’s blood in the water but can the Cards capitalize as the Cats look to be on their heels.
Cats vs. Cards could be decided inside | Cats Pause- If this ends up being the case then I’m not high on their chances.
Walter McCarty on leave at Evansville | ESPN- McCarty has found himself in big trouble with some Title IX issues at Evansville. What a ride it has been for the Purple Aces.
Virginia Tech going to make Lynn Bowden throw | Vaught’s Views- HAHAHAHAHAHA Good Luck!!!!
Kentucky has better players; Louisville has a better team | WDRB- This has the feeling of “Now or Never” for the UofL side of things. It doesn’t help them that they’re in Rupp where UofL has not won since 2008.
College football bold predictions for the Playoff | Sporting News- My bold prediction is that Clemson will win the game by 10+ over Ohio State.
Three point line change altering college basketball | USA Today- We talked to Mike DeCourcey about this yesterday on The Take. The moving of the three point line has altered scoring in a negative. A bad product got worse.
I’ll be doing double duty with Jason Ence today on ESPN 680. I’ll start the coverage with the Pregame Show at 1:00 PM and then we will be back on right after the game with live sound from Rupp Arena, including John Calipari’s presser. Join us!
