It’s already been one of the wildest college hoops seasons in recent memory, and it’s getting even crazier with another blue blood losing at home to a mid-major.
On Sunday, the Wofford Terriers invaded Chapel Hill and upset the No. 17 North Carolina Tar Heels, 68-64. It’s the third-straight loss for the Heels who may be unranked in the newest top-25 polls after being a preseason top-10 team. They also lost to Michigan in the Battle 4 Atlantis and are now 6-4.
Now, to be fair to North Carolina, they were without star freshman Cole Anthony today, as the school announced he would be out indefinitely with a knee injury prior to today’s game. Anthony, the second-leading scorer among freshmen nationally, is averaging 19.1 points per game and has put himself in contention for the No. 1 overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft.
If Anthony misses a significant amount of time, North Carolina will struggle just to make the NCAA Tournament.
Oh, and they play at No. 6 Gonzaga next week before facing UCLA in the CBS Sports Classic.
