The Kentucky Wildcats and Louisville Cardinals entered Sunday’s clash undefeated and looking for a major signature win in a battle of top-15 teams.
Both teams fought valiantly for four quarters, but in the end, Matthew Mitchell’s bunch came up a point short, falling 67-66 to the 7th-ranked Cardinals.
Rhyne Howard had a chance to win the game, but her three-pointer as time expired was no good. It would have capped off a monster game for Howard, who recorded 26 points, four rebounds, two assists and two steals.
Tatyana Wyatt and Sabrina Haines each finished with 12 points.
The 11th-ranked Cats controlled much of the first half and took a 40-31 lead at the break, but the Cards erupted for a 24-10 third quarter to take a three-point lead going into the fourth quarter.
There, both teams would engage in a defensive struggle that saw Kentucky outscore Louisville 11-9, but it was ultimately one point short.
Next up, Kentucky plays host to California on Saturday, Dec. 21st at 7 pm EST.
