Matthew Mitchell’s Kentucky Wildcats squad has had a great start to the season, riding a 10-game winning streak, but they’ll face their toughest challenge of the season thus far when they host the seventh-ranked Louisville Cardinals at Rupp Arena this afternoon.
Kentucky’s 10-0 start is one of the best at UK under Mitchell, but Louisville was ranked as high as #2 earlier in the season after they took down #1 Oregon in November. The Cards have won the last three matchups against the Cats, including a narrow victory at Louisville last season by a score of 80-75.
Kentucky will likely need a strong showing from sophomore superstar Rhyne Howard, who is averaging nearly 20 points per game and more than five rebounds. In Kentucky’s narrow loss last season, Howard finished with 25 points and 10 rebounds.
The all-time record in the series belongs to Kentucky at 34-21, including a 22-5 mark when playing in Lexington.
Beth Mowins, Debbie Antonelli and Brooke Weisbrod will have the call on ESPN. The action can also be seen through WatchESPN on computers, smartphones or tablets. Darren Headrick will have the call on the UK Sports Network on 630AM WLAP in Lexington. Live stats and free live audio will be available online at UKathletics.com.
Fans can purchase $3 tickets for the game by using the promo code UKWBB19 at UKathletics.com/tickets. UK students get into all Kentucky women’s basketball games free of charge with a valid UK Student ID.
As always, go Cats! Beat the Cards!
