Good morning ladies and gentlemen of the Big Blue Nation.
The Kentucky Wildcats basketball team is back in action as they face the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.
The Cats are #8 in the country while the Jackets are fresh off of a 34 point loss to the Syracuse Orange. They’re not very good and UK is favored by double digits. But it’s still good to have Kentucky basketball back for the first time in what seems like forever.
John Calipari has had plenty of time to tinker with the lineups and to practice; therefore it will be interesting to see what he has in store for Josh Pastner today.

Quickies
Coach Skinner and his Cats exit the NCAA Tournament | UK Athletics- It was a tough loss to end the season. The Cats lose in the Regional Semifinal to Washington. It was a great season and I bet they’ll be back next year.
Calipari and Pastner reunited | Cats Pause- Cal handed the Memphis program off to Josh Pastner after he left for UK. Now the former colleagues are facing each other on opposite benches.
What will happen when the Cats have to make threes? | Lexington Herald Leader- Right now the Cats are “thriving by driving,” but at some point they will have to make shots from long range.
Who is rising and falling in latest NBA Draft rankings? | CBS Sports- Right now Tyrese Maxey (#7) is the only Cat in the top ten and the only one trending in the lottery. Kahlil Whitney is listed as a player falling:
Relying upon talent and athleticism to dominate the high school level worked for Kahlil Whitney, but it hasn’t panned out in college with Kentucky. He’s been playing a part-time role this season because as a full-time contributor, his skill -- ball-handling, shooting, polish -- clearly just isn’t quite there. He’s averaging more turnovers and fouls per game this season than assists and steals. If he’s not getting served an alley-oop in transition, where theoretically his game would best translate, he just can’t be relied upon for UK right now. In time his clanks and turnovers will be reduced, but he’s projecting to be a bigger project than I initially anticipated.
Top 25 SEC teams of the decade | Saturdays Down South- I thought UK might sneak into the twenties but...nah. It’s a lot of Alabama, Georgia, and LSU.
Offensive line prospect moving his decision date | Cats Pause- R.J. Adams is down to Kentucky, NC State, and Alabama. This one looks to be trending to NC State.
Rankings the bowl games from best to worst | Sporting News- Another bowl ranking in which the Belk Bowl is higher that the Gator Bowl.
Belk Bowl: Virginia Tech vs. Kentucky
This will be the final game of longtime Hokies defensive coordinator Bud Foster, and that is reason enough to tune in and watch. He’ll have his hands full in Kentucky receiver-turned-quarterback Lynn Bowden, who has 1,235 rushing yards and 348 receiving yards this season.
MLB no longer labeling marijuana as a banned substance | WDRB- This is a huge day for marijuana advocates. Pot is used for medicinal purposes for pain and soreness. I think we will see this in the other pro sports as well.
I will not be on the UK Postgame Show tonight as I have a very important Christmas party to attend. But my good friend Terry Brown will host and he will do one helluva job.
Tune in!
