The Wildcats are following up a big win with an opponent they should dominate.

NCAA Basketball: Kentucky at Michigan State Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports

The Eastern Kentucky Colonels will visit Rupp Arena to take on the #2 (soon to be #1) Kentucky Wildcats.

While this game isn’t quite as meaningful as the Champions Classic, this is still an important game in order to get some of the younger guys (and the post players) going. Khalil Whitney, Keion Brooks, and Johnny Juzang didn’t do much to impact the game on Tuesday night. Whitney wasn’t very aggressive, Brooks seemed lost at times, and Juzang didn’t play much at all. Nothing about what I just wrote is a shot at those guys. They acted like normal freshman do in a big scenario like that. Not every freshman is Tyrese Maxey.

It’ll be good to get those guys some clock and experience in an actual basketball game. All three of them will be pivotal as the season progresses. There are many games they can cut their teeth on before they play the Utah Utes.

It’ll also be good to get some more minutes for EJ Montgomery, Nick Richards, and Nate Sestina so they can continue to gain confidence and get comfortable.

And most importantly: Everyone Stay Healthy!

Quickies

Cats lose to Tennessee in football | WDRB- The folks over at WDRB don’t have much faith in the Cats to beat the Vols. It’s been a back and forth spread all week. Last time the Cats were expected to fall flat they ran Missouri off the field.

Kirk Herbstreit thinks Stoops checks the boxes for FSU job | Cats Pause- The Mark Stoops to Florida State talk is starting to pick up steam. I sincerely hope Mitch Barnhart does everything he can to keep Stoops here if it does come to a face off with Tallahassee.

No smile November for Tyrese Maxey? | Lexington Herald Leader- Calipari is stunned at how his star freshman smiles even through adversity. It’s something that makes him as special as he is.

Dickie V’s conference rankings | ESPN- He has the SEC right behind the ACC in his rankings. Here is what he says:

What I’m watching in the SEC: With the addition of transfer Kerry Blackshear Jr., Florida will challenge Kentucky in the SEC race. The Wildcats have reloaded with Khalil Whitney and Tyrese Maxey. How will Tennessee fare without Grant Williams and Admiral Schofield? Auburn should be tough again with good size up front. Georgia will be improved under Tom Crean as diaper dandy Anthony Edwards shines. Ole Miss has a pair of veteran stars and could compete as well.

Top 25 and 1 | CBS- Cole Anthony announced his entry into college basketball with a breakout performance for UNC. Too bad he doesn’t have much help.

Physicality is defining the UK offense | UK Athletics- The physical toughness of the O-Line is starting to show as the Cats running game takes center stage down the stretch of the season.
