An update on Jon Kuminga

With the Kentucky Wildcats signing six players during the fall signing period for 2020, they still have room for one or two more recruits in the spring.

One prospect they are very high on, and so is everyone else, is Jon Kuminga, the No. 1 player in 2021, who could very well re-class and become the No. 1 player in 2020. Kuminga recently hung out with John Wall and Lance Ware at Kentucky’s game against Michigan State three weeks ago in the Garden, and then released his top-10 schools the day after, cutting presumed favorite LSU, and including Kentucky.

Corey Evans spoke with Kentucky.com about who could be the next addition to the 2020 class.

Evans gave an update on Kuminga, who is said to be one of the best prospects in high school, regardless of class, much like Kentucky signee Terrence Clarke was. Kuminga currently attends St. Patrick high school in New Jersey, the same as Nick Richards did. Kuminga is also AAU teammates and friends with Kentucky signee Lance Ware.

Evans said he thinks Kuminga will ultimately re-classify to 2020, but did not give a list of of who he thought might be the leader for him.

Here’s what Evans had to say:

“But I think that recruitment is going to be a fluid one. And it’s nowhere near being done, when it comes to reclassifying or committing. I could see him — if he does reclassify — play things out this summer. Or even play on the (Nike) EYBL circuit. Kind of pull a (Marvin) Bagley. So, I don’t think any decision is being made anytime soon.”

So, if Kuminga does decide to attend college next season, Kentucky and other schools could be waiting until deep into the summer, which could complicate things. However, it would give Kuminga all the time he needs to see who’s staying in school and leaving for the NBA Draft, something the Wildcats will have a big part in.
