The Kentucky Wildcats are getting set to face Utah Valley on Monday, but they’ll likely do so while not being at full strength.
Sophomore forward EJ Montgomery is battling an ankle injury that has cost him the last three games.
Meanwhile, sophomore point guard Ashton Hagans is battling a leg injury, which is bad enough that John Calipari said Hagans should not have played in the loss to Evansville.
On Sunday, Calipari met with the media to preview the matchup with Utah Valley, and he also gave some brief injury updates. Calipari said Montgomery is probably a week away and is doing some individual work. Kyle Tucker of The Athletic added that Montgomery was not in uniform for today’s practice, so he’s likely out Monday.
Calipari also said Hagans is “healthier” than the last game, but he wouldn’t say whether Hagans is in or out for Monday.
Montgomery’s injury has led to more playing time for Keion Brooks in the frontcourt, though he’s been a major work in progress, so the sooner the better for the sophomore return. With Montgomery likely out Monday, expect to also see Kahlil Whitney getting more frontcourt minutes.
