With UK struggling to find another big man for its 2020 class, John Calipari and his staff may be dipping into the JUCO ranks for frontcourt help.
According to Rivals reporter Corey Evans, UK was in today for a visit with Marial Mading. Evans previously reported that the Florida Gators, Kansas Jayhawks, Oregon Ducks and Texas A&M Aggies have offered scholarships to Mading.
A former Rhode Island power forward, Mading entered the transfer portal this past May and ultimately enrolled at Chipola Junior College in Florida. The 6-10 big man signed an NLI with Rhode Island during the November 2018 signing period and enrolled at the school midway through the 2018-19 school year.
As a high school senior in the 2018 class, Mading was ranked 393rd overall by 247 Sports composite. He held offers from Rhode Island, Tulane, Old Dominion, Texas Tech, Hofstra and Houston.
Originally from Sudan, Mading grew up in Australia before making his way to America, where he would play for Commonwealth Academy in Massachusetts in high school.
It’s untelling how much UK will prioritize Mading in the 2020 class, but seeing as how they’re not exactly in great shape with most of their frontcourt targets, Mading may surge up Calipari’s big board if this recruitment drags into the spring.
