As UK searches for its next frontcourt addition in 2020, John Calipari will visit one of the first big men he offered in said class.
According to Jake Weingarten, Calipari is among several coaches paying a visit to Cliff Omoruyi on Thursday.
As the No. 8 center in the class, Omoruyi has tremendous upside and could develop into a dominant paint presence at the college level, especially under the watch of associate head coach Kenny Payne.
However, it’s been a hot and cold relationship between the 6-11 Omoruyi and UK over the last year. While he did pick up a UK offer in April, it appears it was a conditional offer that would become committable if Omoruyi continued to develop at the rate UK was hoping for. It may also be dependent on how UK does with its other frontcourt targets in the 2020 class.
That may explain why it’s actually been Arizona State who’s gotten the most buzz recently for the New Jersey native and former Roselle Catholic teammate of current Wildcat Kahlil Whitney. The Sun Devils have picked up four straight predictions for Omoruyi between Rivals and 247 Sports, including one from Corey Evans.
The good news is Omoruyi currently doesn’t plan to commit until the spring, which gives UK more time to figure out its frontcourt situation for 2020-21.
