NCAA Basketball: NCAA Tournament-Midwest Regional-Auburn vs Kentucky Jay Biggerstaff-USA TODAY Sports

This past spring, Kentucky’s postseason ended with a regretful loss via the Auburn Tigers.

While the Tigers went on to lose in the Final Four, the Kentucky Wildcats traveled back to Lexington earlier than they would have preferred. However, head coach John Calipari and his staff appeared to use their extra time wisely by preparing for the 2019-2020 season.

Though the team lost talent to this summer’s NBA Draft, the Wildcats returned several familiar faces in addition to one of the deeper recruiting classes Calipari has had over recent years.

On Sunday, Kentucky hosted their annual pro day in Lexington. One standout player was graduate transfer Nate Sestina, who nailed 20 of his 24 three-pointers in a shooting drill. Sestina’s vertical was 33 inches, which is quite impressive for someone of Sestina’s build.

Another takeaway was Johnny Juzang, who can really stroke from outside. Whether it was spotting up or shooting in transition, Juzang certainly showed why he’s picked up a lot of hype over the summer.

Focusing in on defense, opposing teams will have their hands full getting around Kentucky players, as seven of Calipari’s Cats have at-least a seven-foot wingspan.

In a nutshell, Calipari appears to have this roster in position to contend once again for a national title. The talent is certainly there, so the only obstacle separating Lexington from their ninth banner is building quality chemistry over the next five months.

On the recruiting side, Kentucky has been picking up a lot of steam with many of its top targets, mainly Devin Askew, who just wrapped up his official visit to Lexington and could commit in the coming weeks.

And it sounds like Kentucky also has a very real shot at Cade Cunningham, who could end up being the best to come out of the 2020 class.

This is shaping up to be a very fun fall/winter in Lexington.
