Sunday Quickies: First Exhibition Edition

The Cats finally hit the floor for their first action against an opposing team

Dontaie Allen, Nate Sestina, Nick Richards, Ashton Hagans UK Athletics

Last night’s football win was exciting, and now today, we get the second part of a UK football/basketball weekend.

The basketball Cats will hit the floor today at Rupp Arena at 5 p.m. for their first game action against a team other than themselves. Kentucky will welcome in Georgetown College, the defending NAIA Champions, to Rupp Arena for an exhibition matchup.

This is the first of two exhibition games that Kentucky will use to tune up for the season opener on Tuesday, Nov. 5 against Michigan State.

I would expect John Calipari and the coaching staff to try out some different lineup combinations throughout the game. Kentucky will have a size advantage, so will they use Nick Richards and EJ Montgomery together a lot? Will they try out some small-ball lineups with Kahlil Whitney/Keion Brooks at the 4? How often will we see the three-guard lineup with Ashton Hagans, Tyrese Maxey, and Immanuel Quickley?

These exhibition games are usually a good time to try out multiple lineup combinations, so that’s what I’m watching for. What are you looking for in today’s game?
