The 2019-20 college basketball season is almost here, and with it comes the first edition of the AP Top 25 Poll, which was released Monday.
To no surprise, the Michigan State Spartans took home the top spot. It just so happens that this is who the Kentucky Wildcats will face in Game 1 in the 2019 Champions Classic.
As for the Wildcats, they checked in at No. 2, setting up a 1 vs. 2 matchup to tip off the new season. They have been projected as a top-five team in every major preseason ranking, so it’s no surprise to see John Calipari’s bunch once again will open the year as such.
Rounding out the top five were the Kansas Jayhawks, Duke Blue Devils and Louisville Cardinals.
From the SEC, the Florida Gators checked in at No. 6, the LSU Tigers at 22, and the Auburn Tigers at 24.
