The Kentucky Wildcats coaching staff visited top-30 junior Efton Reid on wednesday, according to Jake Weingarten of Stockrisers.
Reid is a new, and relatively unknown, name for Kentucky fans to keep an eye on. The 7-foot power forward from Richmond, Virginia is ranked as the No. 28 overall player by 247 Sports and only has two offers at this very moment: Virginia and Rutgers.
Virginia Cavaliers coach Tony Bennett was in to see Reid on Tuesday, and the Cavaliers are seen as the early favorite.
As of this moment, it’s hard to gauge how interested Kentucky is in the four-star recruit, but it’s good to see John Calipari is already casting a wide net with 2021 bigs. As successful as Kentucky has been every year under Cal, they have struggled with frontcourt recruiting in recent years, partly because they didn’t have enough backup options when they missed on elite recruits like James Wiseman, Mo Bamba, Vernon Carey, Zion Williamson and Isaiah Stewart.
It’s more than likely just a feeling-out process to see how Reid plays and if he’d be a good fit at Kentucky. Especially, with no offer, and Kentucky going after more high-profile players in the class of 2021, I would not expect Reid to earn a UK offer soon, but he’ll certainly be a name to watch this fall and on the 2020 recruiting circuit.
