Lynn Bowden’s first college start at QB was a historic one

Lynn Bowden’s first college start at the quarterback position was one for the ages.

In a game, the Kentucky Wildcats absolutely had to have Bowden put together a legendary performance to guide his team to victory.

Bowden completed 7/11 of his passes for 78 yards and a touchdown while adding an incredible 196 yards on the ground with two rushing touchdowns.

Not only did Bowden perhaps save the Wildcats season, but he joined elite company in the college football record books and even made some history.

According to Corey Price of UK Athletics, Bowden joined Antwaan Randle El (Indiana) and Julian Edelman (Kent State) as the only players since 2000 to have at least 20 rushing attempts, 10 passing attempts, and a punt return in the same game.

Both Randle El and Edelman were college quarterbacks who went onto play and win super bowls in the NFL.

In addition, Bowden became the first college football player since 2000 to record at least 300 receiving yards, 250 rushing yards, 150 kickoff return yards, 100 passing yards, and 50 punt return yards in the same season.

Price added that Bowden and Randall Cobb are the only Kentucky players since 2000 to have at least one passing touchdown, punt return touchdown, receiving touchdown, and rushing touchdown in their career.

Bowden is slowly but surely becoming an all-time great at the University of Kentucky, and if he can lead the team to a fourth-straight bowl bid, he may go down as one of the best to ever wear the blue and white.
