The Kentucky Wildcats and Georgia Bulldogs will face off in Week 8 on ESPN at 6 pm EST, the league announced Sunday.
Unfortunately for Kentucky there couldn’t be a worse possible time to travel to Athens to play the Bulldogs. After Georgia’s disappointing double overtime home loss to South Carolina on Saturday, you can all but guarantee that Kirby Smart will have his team focused on dominating every snap.
The previously ranked No. 3 Bulldogs are now likely on the outside looking in of the college football playoff. So winning and winning big will undoubtedly be their motivation in the final six regular season games.
On the the other hand, the Gamecocks may have just provided a blueprint of vulnerabilities that Kentucky could potentially capitalize on. Even though USC was thrashed for nearly 500 yards of total offense, they were able to force four turnovers which was their ultimate key to victory. Junior Quarterback Jake Fromm had been virtually untouchable this season but tossed three interceptions and lost a fumble in the Bulldogs 20-17 loss.
The biggest question to Saturday’s game in Athens will be which UK team shows up to play. If it is the same team from the second half of the Arkansas game then the Cats could stay competitive against one of the top teams in the country. Anything less than consistent execution will be the recipe for a long day and potentially lopsided score.
Lynn Bowden’s three touchdowns and nearly 200 yards on the ground gave reason for the Big Blue Nation to remain optimistic about the remainder of the season. Is ability to take it to the house anytime the ball is in his hands can start to open up things for other skill players on offense. You can only assume that it will be Bowden who takes the majority of the snaps on Saturday as Sawyer Smith continues to heal up.
This will be one of Kentucky’s last remaining chances to make a major statement and get a big time road win. The rest of the schedule features teams that UK should be matched fairly even with.
