Highlights box score & MVP from Kentucky’s thrilling win over Arkansas

A season-saving win for the Cats.

The Kentucky Wildcats took the field on Saturday looking to bounce back from a three game losing streak, and in a back-and-forth affair they were able to pull out a 24-20 win against the Arkansas Razorbacks.

Behind a heroic effort by Lynn Bowden, the Wildcats racked up over 300 rushing yards and took care of the ball down the stretch to secure the win. The defense came up huge as well. After giving up 10 points in the first quarter, they held the Razorbacks to 10 in the next three quarters, including a huge stop later in the fourth, to give Kentucky the breathing room they needed.

Game MVP

This game was going to go one of two ways. Lynn Bowden was going to play well and give Kentucky a chance to win, or he was going to struggle and the Wildcats would have been embarrassed in playing a receiver at quarterback. Thankfully, Bowden put forth an MVP-like effort.

While the play calling was very conservative early on, Bowden was able to throw the ball more in the second half. And he did well, completing 7 of 11 passes with a touchdown and no interceptions. Even his deep balls looked like solid throws, with the most successful bomb resulting in an Ahmad Wagner pass interference call on fourth down.

Bowden also moved the ball well on the ground. In running lots of read option plays, he had to make a lot of decisions and he definitely put his team in a position to be successful. He had an amazing 196 yards and two touchdowns himself, but the team had over 300 yards rushing and a lot of those yards came off of his reads.

Bowden is not the best quarterback on Kentucky’s roster, but he showed against Arkansas that he can fill that role enough to put the Wildcats in position to win games against the bottom half of the SEC.
