The Kentucky Wildcats already have a monster recruiting class in 2020 with four commitments. Might there be a fifth that’s silently committed?
In an interview with Hey Kentucky (via KSR), Brandon Boston hinted that UK already has a silent commitment from a frontcourt target.
“We got one coming in, actually,” Boston said when asked if UK was going to land another big man in 2020. “We’ve got one coming in. I can’t tell right now. But we’ll be very good, I feel like we’re going to have the No. 1 recruiting class.”
That’s very interesting since UK seemingly isn’t in the lead for any of its 2020 frontcourt targets. While four-star forward Lance Ware is a promising prospect, he’s viewed as a multi-year player that might not be ready for a starting role as a freshman.
After Ware, UK is in the mix for Scottie Barnes, Greg Brown, Isaiah Jackson, Cliff Omoruyi, JJ Traynor and Marial Mading. But Traynor and Mading don’t hold offers from UK, at least that have been confirmed publicly, so we can probably rule them out.
Omoruyi and Brown aren’t going to commit until the spring, so it’s unlikely either of them is the silent commit.
That leaves Jackson and Barnes in terms of 2020 recruits. Jackson is definitely the likeliest candidate of the two, but Alabama is a major player for him, and they’ll host Jackson and his family for an official visit later this month.
As for Barnes, he’s going to visit UK sometime this fall and likely make a decision in time for the fall signing period. While UK has gotten some recent buzz, I seriously doubt he’s silently committed to the Wildcats.
In addition, there could be a Class of 2021 big man who could reclassify. The most obvious candidate is Paolo Banchero, someone UK is in good shape with and could be a reclass candidate.
Still, the current expectation is Banchero will remain in 2021, but he’s still a name to consider for 2020.
A more recent name to emerge on UK’s big board is Moussa Cisse, a Class of 2021 big man who has had some reclass buzz, though it’s still too early to tell if it’s a legitimate option.
Plus, Memphis is viewed as the favorite for the five-star center who plays at Lausanne Collegiate School in Memphis. Cisse is, however, visiting for Big Blue Madness, so perhaps UK is making a move with the top-10 recruit.
Of course, there could be another big man option that we don’t know about. After all, there’s been several instances in this class where a recruit held an offer from UK for months before it was revealed. That could mean it’s a recruit we’ve not heard about, or it could be someone UK has recruited already like Traynor or Mading.
So, who would be your guess for UK’s silent commitment? Let us know in the poll below and in the comments section.
