John Calipari gives injury update on Dontaie Allen

There’s still a ways to go in Allen’s recovery.

On Tuesday, UK held its annual men’s basketball media day, signaling the new college hoops season is upon us

With Big Blue Madness set to take place next week, it won’t be long until the Cats are back in action on the Rupp Arena court,

Unfortunately, Dontaie Allen won’t be among them, as the incoming freshman is still recovering from a torn ACL and broken collarbone.

During his opening presser today, John Calipari revealed that Allen isn’t even practicing yet. Calipari also guessed Allen is another month away from being fully cleared, so it sounds like he’ll miss the start of the 2019-20 season. Calipari did not comment on a potential redshirt.

The good news is UK has plenty of depth in the backcourt and on the wing, so they won’t need Allen right away. But as the season rolls on, having a shooter like Allen able to come off the bench and stretch the floor will be a welcome addition.

But in the end, Allen’s health is the priority, so don’t expect to see him in game action anytime soon.
