Keldon Johnson is the latest Kentucky Wildcats star to earn a weekly SEC honor.
On Monday, the league tabbed Johnson as the SEC Freshman of the Week.
Johnson averaged 12 points, 7.5 rebounds and 1.5 steals in wins over AP Top 25 teams Mississippi State and Kansas. He shot a team-best 52.9 percent from the field. It came one week after he went for 20 points in a win at Auburn.
Against Top 25 teams this season, Johnson is averaging 17.6 points and five boards per game while shooting 56.4 percent from the field and 50 percent from three-point range. That included 3/3 shooting from deep in the second half of Kentucky’s win over Kansas, a game in which he finished with 15 points in.
This is the the third honor of the season for Johnson and the league-leading seventh different honor of the year for UK. The Wildcats have had a freshman named its top performer in six of the last seven weeks.
Kentucky has won more weekly SEC honors (96) than any other school during the John Calipari era, including 78 SEC Freshman of the Week honors and 18 SEC Player of the Week awards.
