Tensions flared in the Minnesota Timberwolves’ 118-91 win against the Phoenix Suns on Tuesday, and it involved a Kentucky vs. Louisville connection.
Both Suns guard Devin Booker and Timberwolves center Gorgui Dieng were ejected after an elbow to Booker’s face. Booker even tried to take a swipe at Dieng before they were seperated.

Gorgui Dieng hit Devin Booker directly in the head/neck area with his elbow. This is ridiculous. pic.twitter.com/MjgRgHd3DZ

Dieng, a former Cardinal, and Booker, a former Wildcat, appeared ready to throw hands in the tunnels had they been given the opportunity. Booker had to be held back and restrained by a security guard to attempt from keeping him from meeting up with Dieng, who also tried to find Booker in the Suns’ locker room:

So word I’m getting is that after the ejections Dieng fought off two security guards and got within about 15 yards of the Suns locker room before security was able to restrain him. Booker was not in the locker room or anywhere near as he was held up by security outside the tunnel

Dieng had only seen five minutes of playing time and grabbed three rebounds before the heated moments that led to his ejection, while Booker had already seen 24 minutes on the court and picked up 14 points.
So, it’s not like they had been bantering back and forth all night. It seems like the moment got the best of both of the players, something that isn’t seen much from these two.
This was the last of the two meetings between the Suns and Timberwolves with the Timberwolves taking both games.
Former Wildcat and teammate of Booker, Karl-Anthony Towns, would actually side with his teammate if he had come to blows with Booker.
“I love Devin like a brother, but I got Gorgui,” said Towns in a postgame interview.
Hopefully, nothing major comes of this, but Booker and Dieng will at least receive a fine from the NBA.
