Another week, another SEC ward for Ashton Hagans.

This time, Hagans has been named the SEC Freshman of the Week.

This past week in wins over Texas A&M and Vanderbilt, Hagans led the team in scoring, averaging 16.5 points, 4.5 assists and 4.0 steals per game. He scored a career-high 18 points against the Aggies, then notched 15 against the Dores. He has scored in double figures in four straight and leads Kentucky with 15.0 points per game in SEC play.

According to STATS, Hagans is the first major-conference freshman with three or more steals in five or more games since Oklahoma State’s Marcus Smart did it five straight games from Jan. 26-Feb. 9, 2013. He had five steals against Texas A&M and three more vs. Vanderbilt.

Hagans is also getting his teammates involved, as he recorded a team-high nine assists for the week and has three or more in nine-straight games.
