Sunday was a gloomy day outside, and unfortunately, the mood was not much different inside Memorial Coliseum.

Ole Miss came in and handed the UK women just their third loss of the season in a sloppy, low-scoring game, defeating the Cats 55-49.

“We couldn’t get anything going for us, because we couldn’t get out of the gate and play with effort and energy.” head coach Matthew Mitchell said of the loss.

Kentucky shot just 27% from the floor for the game and had 16 turnovers. Ole Miss also outrebounded the Cats 39-37. Crystal Allen led Ole Miss in scoring with 28 points.

With Maci Morris out due to a knee injury and Taylor Murray limited due to her own knee injury, Rhyne Howard shouldered most of the load and was the bright spot for the Cats. She led the team in almost every statistical category with 20 points, 11 rebounds, and 4 assists, all while sitting out the whole third quarter.

Blair Green and Jaida Roper also made big contributions with 9 points and 4 assists respectively.

The women will return to action on Thursday as they travel to LSU to take on the Tigers.
