While Kentucky may not necessarily be behind in recruiting for the 2019 cycle, it has to be a bit unsettling for Big Blue Nation to see John Calipari’s new class ranked as No. 7 in the country. However, there are still several star prospects in play for Kentucky.
On Thursday, Evan Daniels of 247 Sports answered recruiting questions in the newest edition of his mailbag. His discussion included several of Kentucky’s remaining top targets.
When asked about UK’s chances with the two top big men remaining in the class, Daniels indicated that Isaiah Stewart is probably not headed for Lexington, while Jaden McDaniels’ recruitment is up in the air.
“There’s been a lot of talk lately about Washington regarding Stewart,” Daniels wrote. “That seems to be where everyone thinks he’s going. I think that Michigan State and Duke are the other primary schools.”
Kentucky has not been on Stewart’s list for some time, but there has always been the feeling that they were not completely out of the the picture in his recruitment. It seems that door may have finally closed.
“By all accounts, Jaden McDaniels isn’t focused on the recruiting process right now,” he said. “Are the Wildcats involved? Yes. But it seems like he’s prioritized his senior season and trying to win a high school championship, which makes sense. This has been one of the toughest recruitments to handicap in the 2019 class.”
Many believe that Kentucky is in a good place with the Washington native, but it seems we may have to wait a while before we find out.
The other Calipari target that Daniels discussed is Keion Brooks. While Kentucky was once the favorite, it seems that Archie Miller has come on strong and Indiana may be in the lead.
Despite the Hoosier buzz, Daniels believes that “Michigan State is very much in this race, as is Kentucky and North Carolina.”
A decision is expected to come soon from Brooks, potentially in the next few weeks.
