It’s that time of year again where college football has ended and the NFL mock drafts are coming in hot.
Battling for a top spot in those mock drafts is Kentucky Wildcats star Josh Allen, who is a projected top-5 pick thanks to his incredible season in which he had 17 sacks, 88 tackles, and five forced fumbles.
Allen also swept every major defensive player of the year award, winning the Nagurski, Lott Impact, Bednarik, and SEC Defensive Player of the Year.
So where is Josh Allen standing as of today? Well some outlets agree that Allen is a top-3 to top-5 pick, and others seem to have not watched a down of Kentucky Football at all this year.
CBS Sports Mock Draft:
- Arizona Cardinals - Nick Bosa, DE, Ohio State Buckeyes: Truthfully I have no idea why Nick Bosa is the consensus projected No. 1 overall pick despite playing in three games this past season. Any other player coming off a significant injury would drop his stock like a ton of bricks, but apparently not if you’re a Bosa. Btw, Bosa had 17.5 sacks in his entire career, Josh Allen had 17 sacks this season. Just saying.
- San Francisco 49ers - Rashan Gary, DE, Michigan Wolverines: CBS says that the 49ers need some help at edge rusher; I think I know a guy.
- New York Jets - Quinnen Williams, DL, Alabama Crimson Tide: Oh look, a guy Josh Allen beat out for every major defensive award goes ahead of him. Nice.
- Oakland Raiders - Josh Allen, OLB, Kentucky Wildcats: And finally we see Allen heading to Oakland to fill the shoes left by Khalil Mack after his trade to the Bears before the season. The Raiders lack a defensive force now and Josh Allen can be the heir apparent to Mack and can replicate what he was able to do in Oakland.
NBC Sports Mock Draft:
- Arizona Cardinals - Quinnen Williams, DL, Alabama Crimson Tide
- San Francisco 49ers - Nick Bosa, DE, Ohio State Buckeyes
- New York Jets - Ed Oliver, DT, Houston Cougars: I don’t see Ed Oliver going before Josh Allen. Sorry, not sorry.
- Oakland Raiders - Clelin Ferrell, DE, Clemson Tigers: Ferrell is another guy that Josh Allen beat out for every major defensive award. Just saying.
- Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Greedy Williams, CB, LSU Tigers: I wouldn’t have a problem with Greedy Williams going before Allen, especially if the team is in need of a great cornerback. Greedy could be Jamal Adams 2.0.
- New York Giants - Rashan Gary, DE. Michigan Wolverines: Oh look, another guy that Josh Allen beat for every major defensive award goes before him.
- Jacksonville Jaguars - Dwayne Haskins, QB, Ohio State Buckeyes
- Detroit Lions - Josh Allen, OLB, Kentucky Wildcats: I don’t see Allen falling past the top-5, but I would selfishly hate if the Lions snagged Allen at No. 8, especially since I’m a Packers fan.
