The UK Hoops team got their second win in SEC play in a big-time victory over the Tennessee Volunteers down in Knoxville, 73-71.
Led by Maci Morris’ 27 points on 10/16 shooting, Kentucky held the lead for pretty much the entire game, even jumping out to a 24-7 first quarter lead early in the game.
For the final 4:19 of the game, Kentucky was without its three leading scorers on the season (Macy Morris, Rhyne Howard and Taylor Murray). Morris fouled out at the 4:19 mark, Howard had previously fouled out after scoring just six points in 14 minutes.
Murray was injured in the first half. She suffered a knee injury and it’s unclear how severe it was. Prior to exiting, she scored nine points and moved into a tie for 22nd on the UK career scoring list with 1,180 career points.
This brings the No. 16 ranked Kentucky Wildcats to 15-2 on the season, a massive step up from the previous season’s re-building year, where they reached 15 wins for the entire season.
This is just the fourth time in program history in which the Cats won in Knoxville, which only begins to speak how big of a win this was for the program and head coach Matthew Mitchell.
