At a pregame press conference on Monday, Penn State Coach James Franklin said that his team would be wearing the “real blue and white.”
Those words came back to haunt him as the Kentucky Wildcats received the Citrus Bowl trophy after defeating his Nittany Lions on Tuesday.
“They are going to be wearing blue and white. WE WILL be wearing the real blue and white. Let’s rock the #VRBOCitrusBowl like it’s never been rocked before.”

After his team silenced all of the doubters in Kentucky’s first bowl win in a decade, Stoops did not let Franklin forget what he said. As he held the Citrus Bowl trophy, Stoops said, “Don’t let anyone question who the real blue and white is.”
Via KSR:
In case you have forgotten, there is no love lost between Franklin and Stoops. When Franklin was in his last season at Vanderbilt in 2013, he famously threw the ball with under a minute remaining with the game in hand against Kentucky in the first season of Mark Stoops’ tenure.
Stoops did not appreciate that gesture. Rumor has it that Stoops promised Franklin that he would later repay him for the added embarrassment. I would say the Citrus Bowl victory, with the added shade thrown by Stoops at the trophy ceremony, is plenty of paypack.
But Stoops wasn’t the only one laughing in triumph after the game. UK also got in on the trolling of Franklin with this response to Franklin’s infamous ‘Kentucky, Kentucky, Kentucky’ tweet:
