Sea of Blue and USA Basketball

James Wiseman has arrived to Lexington for his official visit with the Kentucky Wildcats.

According to Chris Fisher, current Kentucky guard Ashton Hagans posted an Instagram update that shows Wiseman is now on his visit. Wiseman has previously said he’d like to play with Hagans in college.

Wiseman, a 6-11 big center in the 2019 class, is beginning his fall visits that will include trips with Kentucky, Kansas and Vanderbilt among others. However, this battle is believed to be a two-horse race between Kentucky and nearby Memphis, which has been the case for awhile now.

While Kentucky looked like the early favorite, Memphis now leads in Wiseman’s crystal ball, holding 67 percent of the predictions with 21 predictions logged. National recruiting expert Evan Daniels has kept his prediction for Kentucky, though.

Hopefully, Kentucky can get some momentum back while Wiseman is in Lexington this weekend. Wiseman has been widely-regarded as the No. 1 player in the class for some time now, and for good reason. He’s a talented center that has enough versatility to play the five like a modern big man and block shots at a rate similar to Anthony Davis’ lone year in Lexington.

Wiseman has gotten more attention from Kentucky than any other big man in the 2019 class, but he’s no longer the team’s only option at that spot. Calipari has set himself up well with Matthew Hurt, Vernon Carey, Aidan Igiehon and Oscar Tshiebwe. He’s also taking a look at Zeke Nnaji.

But in the end, Wiseman is still who Kentucky wants the most in the 2019 class. He’s expected to make a decision sometime in the spring, probably as some of the NBA Draft decisions are being made at Kentucky and other schools he’ll consider.
