Saturday Quickies: Beat South Carolina Edition

Cats try to make in 5 in a row against the Gamecocks, UK basketball hosting big time recruits, and more!

Jason Marcum - Sea of Blue

Good morning Big Blue Nation! It’s another Saturday that features a big SEC night game for the Kentucky Wildcats. Tonight they will take on South Carolina, a team they have beaten four times in a row.

Will Muschamp has made it clear that his team will do their best to stop Benny Snell and the run game. So this may be a night where Terry Wilson and the receivers will need to step up and shine.

Still, stopping Snell and that offensive line is easier said than done. I think most teams that Kentucky has faced this season had the same plan. And it didn’t work for them.

Quickies

How the Cats and the Gamecocks match up | Lexington Herald Leader- On paper this is an evenly matched game. South Carolina doesn’t have a win on it’s resume like Kentucky does so this is as opportunity for them to get a big victory.

It’s a big night for football recruiting | Courier-Journal- Mark Stoops and Vince Marrow are hosting some of their top recruits tonight. The atmosphere at the stadium should be absolutely bananas and a victory would solidify Kentucky as one of the two best teams in the SEC East. Last week they picked up two commitments after the win over Mississippi State. Could we see more tonight?

Week 5 bold predictions | Saturdays Down South- The author is right in saying Kentucky may be primed for a let down. It’s been a magical stretch so far and in the back of our Kentucky football fan minds some of are waiting for the implosion. But I like the outcome here.

The Butler did it

Kentucky is primed for a letdown. And South Carolina comes into this game with a solid chip on its shoulder, courtesy of losing the last four games in this series. Carolina will lead early, but Kentucky’s offense is built for the third and fourth quarters. This one comes down to a field goal, and Kentucky’s former walk-on Miles Butler will be the hero.

Isaiah Stewart and Oscar Tshiebwe on official visits | Cats Pause- The football team isn’t the only program on campus set up for a big recruiting weekend. John Calipari is hosting two of his top three big man targets of the 2019 class. I am sure he is selling the idea of playing both guys together along with James Wiseman. In the end I think he lands both Stewart and Tshiebwe.

Volleyball takes down Arkansas | UK Athletics- The 19th ranked Cats are now 2-0 in the SEC and 8-4 overall as they defeated the Hogs 3-0. Senior Brooke Morgan led the way with 15 kills.

Soccer takes on South Carolina | UK Athletics- The Cats are in the top ten and are undefeated. They will face off against the Gamecocks in Columbia at 7:00 PM. South Carolina is the only other school in the SEC to sponsor men’s soccer.

What matters most around the SEC | Saturdays Down South- Kentucky has a chance to make some noise in the SEC going 5-0. The national attention would then be firmly on the Wildcats.

Little has changed since the Adidas scandal | CBS- The world of college basketball was rocked a year ago as the FBI arrested a number of college basketball coaches linked to pay for play scandals with Adidas. Since then, it’s been business as usual and the only school truly affected by the scandal was the University of Louisville. And I’m OK with that.

Week 5 picks against the spread | The Sporting News- Looking to wet your beak a little big today? The Sporting News is calling for an UPSET of Kentucky. Somebody show this to Benny Snell, stat!

Week 5 picks | CBS- There are some big time football games today. Yet Kentucky and South Carolina wasn’t picked as one of them.
