The Kentucky Wildcats will face off with the South Carolina Gamecocks this Saturday. The game will be at Commonwealth Stadium, and kickoff is set for 7:30 PM EST on the SEC Network.
Why not?
That’s been the Kentucky Wildcats’ mantra for a long time now, but this season has truly been the embodiment of that question.
After beating the Florida Gators, ending the streak, it felt like anything was possible for this team. Then they followed up that game with a huge 48-10 win against Murray State.
When Mississippi State showed up in Lexington a lot of people, especially ESPN’s College GameDay group, didn’t think it Kentucky had a chance. The Wildcats won that game in dominating fashion 28-7.
After wrecking through two top 25 ranked SEC teams Kentucky finally received their first ranking under coach Mark Stoops at #17. This week will test the Wildcats once more to see if they truly deserve to hold that ranking.
We need to see a repeat in the dominance from key players like Benny Snell Jr., Josh Allen, Terry Wilson, and Kash Daniel if we want to see them walk away with a win. In the Gamecocks last win against a rebuilding Vanderbilt Commodores team they tallied up 534 yards of total offense.
They were almost dead even through the air and on the ground (273 rush, 261 pass) in the win. The Gamecocks’ defense held them to under 100 yards rushing and 300 total yards. This could be a challenge for Kentucky, but it’s not something they haven’t faced before.
Going 5-0 overall for the first time since 2007 and 3-0 in the SEC for the first time since the 1977 would be huge for this team looking to prove to the nation that they can’t be slept on any longer.
