All of the focus on Kentucky recruiting may be on which big men John Calipari will land in 2019, but he’s already hard at work in the backcourt for 2020.
According to Jason Jordan, Kentucky is among the school’s coming the hardest after Anthony Edwards. Also in hot pursuit are the North Carolina Tar Heels, Michigan State Spartans, Duke Blue Devils and Kansas Jayhawks.
That’s a heck of a list, and it only begins to speak to how good of a player Edwards is. All three major recruiting services have Edwards ranked top five overall in 2020, included second overall by 247 Sports.
The 6-4, 215-pound shooting guard hails from Holy Spirit Preparatory School in Georgia. He already holds scholarship offers from North Carolina, Kansas, Virginia Florida, Auburn, Florida State, Clemson and Memphis among others.
Kentucky has yet to extend a scholarship, but this far, Calipari has only offered two players in 2020; five-star center N’Faly Dante and five-star wing Scottie Barnes. But if Calipari is already putting a lot of effort into recruiting Edwards, an offer may not be far off.
The only crystal ball predictions thus far are for Florida State, though it’s hard to see the Noles beating out those aforementioned blue bloods for an elite recruit like Edwards.
